Well, as of yesterday, I finally finished the nursery! It has only taken me six months, but, I like to think I have been a bit busy :) As soon as the shock of our pregnancy wore off, I immediately began to think of the nursery. I had no idea whether we were having a boy or girl, but, that didn't stop me. My sister has a strange obsession with elephants, or "lellies" as she refers to them, and she really wanted us to have an elephant theme. At first, I thought she was crazy, there was no way I would put a bunch of random elephants in the nursery. However, the more I thought about it the more I grew to love the idea.
The weekend after we found out we were having a girl, my mom, nana, and myself went to a consignment furniture store and found this picture:
It was perfect! It is hard to read in this picture but it says "little girls like to dance and twirl" and it has an elephant on it! This picture was our first piece for the room and we planned everything around it. Our inspiration if you will. We also found this piece at the same store:
Some may think this is a bit creepy or weird, but, I actually love it. It is a cement baby elephant. We found this as we were walking out of the store and of course we had to buy it, it went perfectly with the picture!
Once we had our inspiration we were able to start looking for bedding. I had looked at Babies R Us, but, I honestly didn't like any of their bedding. I found it to be gaudy. But, that is just me. There was really only one place I wanted to look, Pottery Barn Kids. Yes, I know this place is insanely expensive but I only wanted to "look." Bad idea. My mom and I went, just to browse, and wouldn't you know...they had the perfect bedding! Before I knew it, I was in the check out line buying this bedding.
Next up, furniture! I knew from the beginning that I wanted white furniture, it is so pure and innocent and I thought it would be perfect for our baby. We got a crib, dresser, and a chest of drawers. As for the rocking chair, we didn't have to look far. My nana had the perfect rocker sitting in her garage. It is pale green and has pink trim, and is absolutely perfect. She let us have the rocker and we are so thankful! The last piece of furniture that we bought was a storage unit from IKEA and we LOVE IT! I love to have things put away and organized and this unit really helped us achieve just that!
Here are a few nursery pics!
We made her name, thanks to pinterest! We used canvas, scrapbook paper, mod podge, wooden letters, pink spray paint, and hot glue! Easy as can be!
Her closet!
My sweet sister is crazy creative and made several things for the nursery. This being one of them. She calls Emerson, "Emmy." I give up on the whole baby E thing, too hard and anyone reading this probably already knows her name. Whew, I can breath now. Anyways, I love this little decorative name plate, although I will probably never call her "Emmy," just isn't natural to me.
We decided to use the dresser as a changing table and most of the drawers are filled with cloth diapers, blankets, wipes, etc. All the fun things!
Just had to share her sweet 3D ultrasound picture! One of the ONLY benefits of being a high-risk patient were all of the ultrasounds. I normally had a sweet tech who would switch to the 3D setting. I must say, she looks just like this picture! Crazy how accurate it is :)
Her chest of drawers complete with a picture of mommy and daddy and her Dr. Seuss collection!
My sister made these for her as well :) She painted and drew them on canvas.
My husbands sister made Emerson this! I love it! I have always seen these on pinterest, in fact, I have pinned something similar. But lets be real, I would never make it. Therefore, I am so glad she surprised us with it!!
The rocker and storage unit from IKEA!! The teddy sitting in the rocker was a gift from my husband when we were dating. He made it at Build-A-Bear and I am so glad I kept it and can pass it on to Emerson.
Her shadow box I made that hangs above the storage unit. It has her preemie hat that they gave her in the NICU, her first preemie outfit she wore, her birth announcement, her ID bracelet, and her information card from the hospital! I absolutely love this, makes me miss that stage. It was such a hard period for us as a family but I am beginning to forget, so this box helps remind me of what all we went through. I am proud of our journey, it was unique, and one day Emerson will want me to explain to her what is in the box. I look forward to that day!
Well, this was just a quick look into Emerson's room! I think it fits her personality perfectly! She is such a sweet baby and is so laid back. Never really fussy and always willing to cuddle. Her room is by far my favorite room in the house!
